| "Wicked Pictures Gets Involved With Politics"
Wicked Pictures and its contract stars have been traveling around the country fighting for all forms of free speech that will also allow the company to continue putting out quality adult entertainment.
Most recently exclusive contract couple Missy and Mickey G. went to
Sacramento, California, for their first time, to join the Free Speech
Coalition to lobby against bills that affect the adult entertainment business. They spent two days at the Capital learning and being educated about the Free Speech Coalition and how the government tries to pass bills regulating the adult businesses; while also trying to educate the lawmakers about their own business.
Missy and Mickey G. both said that the whole trip was a great learning experience, and gave them an awareness for the political environment in Sacramento, and the effects that it can have on us.
Other people from the business such as fellow porn stars Nina Hartley, and
Johnni Black and her husband joined Wicked's couple in Sacramento. And Missy and Mickey G.
both agreed that it was great to see a large company like Tower
Records come out to show its support for free speech and the selling of adult entertainment; something they hope they'll see more of in the future.
It was nice to see a company like Tower showing their support.
We need more companies like them and "less and less Blockbusters," who don't rent or sell adult products and even censor some of their non-adult videos, said Mickey G.
Earlier this month Missy along with another of Wicked's contract stars, Serenity, ventured to Dallas, Texas, to a Save Our Speech Party to help raise money to benefit the preservation of the adult industry in the south.
Here a lot of adult stars along with fans got together to support adult entertainment. It also gave fans a chance to meet and put faces with the people in the industry, said Missy, who had a great time in Dallas meeting fans, signing autographs and helping raise money for her industry.
And as would be expected at any event involving adult entertainment or anything that's not seen as "mainstream" by a majority of the public, there were the usual protestors. The only thing Missy and Mickey G. found a little ironic was that at the rally in Sacramento, there was one protestor who brought his children out to rally against adult entertainment. This is something that doesn't usually happen, because the protestors usually don't want to expose their kids to the thing their trying to protect them from, said Mickey G.
After attending these parties and rallies, and receiving support, Missy and Mickey G. agree that adult entertainment has started to become more mainstream and respected socially, as there is now a growing awareness of the business. But it's still important for everyone involved with the adult entertainment industry, from the stars to exotic dancers to adult bookstore owners, to come together and fight for the same cause if they want to continue operating freely.
They would encourage any fans and supporters who want to help out the cause to contribute money to the Free Speech Coalition because their organization fights the government for free, so they need any help they can get in order to keep up their work, said Mickey G.
Missy and Mickey G. are very positive about the future of the business that they love so much. The main thing for us is our creativity, having fun and being able to keep creating quality erotica, whether in front of or behind the camera, said Mickey G.
As we destroy more and more of the negative images associated with the industry, it seems to be coming above ground. It's even becoming more acceptable as people realize that it is a "valuable form entertainment" and not harmful to the community, which is demonstrated by the growing female audience, said Mickey G.
People have to let go of the fear of the business that has been instilled in them by the religious-right, and understand that we're not dangerous. The adult industry can and does have a positive influence on the adult community. The industry doesn't have all these negative, harmful effects on society, especially when you consider all the violence out there today, said Missy and Mickey G.
And having two kids of my own I know that adult entertainment is inappropriate from them at their age, I even keep their AOL accounts childproof, so they're not exposed to those sorts of things. That's why it's good that organizations like the Free Speech Coalition offer rewards for finding people who publish child porn, said Mickey G.
"It's important to keep all forms of speech in the country free because it's important that our choices will be free. A majority-rule society would be scary," said Mickey G. It's also important to have the freedom to make the right choices, and make your own decisions, added Missy.
And while neither Missy or Mickey G. want to become a "poster child" for free speech, they'll continue to give their time and support to assure the preservation of their industry. Having Wicked behind us, we're more than happy to give our time, and continue to represent them in any way, said Mickey G.
