| As if the midsummer sun weren't hot enough in Socal, the world of porn held a gathering at the LA Convention Center this month. The first ever AVN Adult Expo was held this month at the Los Angeles Convention Center as part of the VSDA show. Having never been to any of the VSDA adult shows, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, I packed up my notebook and camera and with fellow critics Nick Night, Erica Marshall, Syke and Natalie Dawn in tow, made my way onto the floor.
The floor was laid out in much the same way it is during the winter CES shows in Vegas. Booths lined the hall in long rows as people milled about trying to get a glimpse of their favorite porn stars. As always, if there was something to be had for free, there was a line and anything that wasn't nailed down was gone in a flash. The LA Convention Center is a pretty nice venue for a show like this and unlike at Erotica LA, there wasn't a huge Christian convention sharing the Convention Center.
(Talk about unfair to both sides.) I was struck by how much smaller the show was than CES. Some of the biggest names in porn were absent from the festivities. Elegant Angel, Zane, Pleasure, Anabolic and Video Team were just a few of the companies who, for one reason or another, chose not to participate.
The first thing anyone saw when entering the building was the Vivid booth.
It was only half the size of the CES booth, without the cool DVD portion and the side booth for Vivid Raw, but it was still buzzing with activity. Long lines of fans waited to have their posters signed by their favorite V Girls. I figured I would use the opportunity to track down Jenteal and finally get that interview she has been promising me for two years. Over the two days, I never did catch her at the booth. I'm still waiting Jen. Watch out for stalker-mode Rog at CES.
Next to Vivid in the entryway, was the huge VCA booth. As always, it was packed with the company's contract stars and brought the show's most awaited appearances. Their recent comebacks in full swing, Marilyn Chambers and Ginger Lynn both signed for VCA. How often have the two women widely considered to be the top two stars of all time, shared the same booth? Again, I was shut out on the interview front, but I am still hard at work tracking down the two superstars.
In addition to the comeback kids, VCA had Vicca, Nikita and Stacy Valentine signing for adoring fans. No wonder new PR girl Kylie Ireland, was so busy.
Evil Angel had a booth filled with some of the best asses in all of porn. Flanking Buttman were such posteriorally blessed beauties as Shane Tyler, Ruby and Tricia Deveraux.
Tricia looked stunning in a tiny pair of shorts that showed off her incredible buns quite nicely. Shane Tyler's ass is in countdown mode. The blonde has announced that the end of this year will be the end of her on camera career. Here's hoping she will be very busy between now and then. Seeing Ruby, I was struck as always by the notion that this incredible creature really should be a bigger star than she is. Oh well, you're top of the charts in my book Ruby, and judging from the email I get, tons of fans agree.
A little further back, the folks at Wicked had their booth packed with contract starlets. Jenna Jameson, Serenity and Stephanie Swift were joined by gorgeous Laurie Sinclaire. Thanks to the always cooperative PR people at Wicked, I managed to tentatively schedule an interview with Ms. Swift. (Who knows, maybe I can get Jenna sometime too.) Proving her time away from the business hasn't hurt her popularity, Jenna still drew the biggest lines at the show.
Meanwhile, Serenity kept trying to show me her dick. No, there isn't some big Crying Game secret to report. She was just proud of her new toy line. While fellow critic Erica Marshall did admit that the dick felt quite real, I am more interested in the forthcoming mold of Serenity's ass. Everyone make note, that is the number one item on Rog's Christmas list.
Proving that there is life after Tush, Samantha Stylle was all smiles as she signed at the egami booth. The company has signed both Sam and Cherry Lee to contracts. Sam will have two lines of videos coming out soon. The Stylle Files promises to explore some of Sammy's fantasies and 'Sammy's Ammies" will bring us fresh new faces in a way that, according the beautiful Ms. Stylle, "will appeal to women as well as men. I want everyone to get turned on and get off." Me first Sammy.
Cherry Mirage, AKA Stryc-9, AKA Cherry, AKA Cherry 99, AKA Stryc Nine, AKA the woman most likely to be thrown to the floor and ravished by Rog, appeared in good spirits and looked awesome. She signed her new video, which features a lovely picture of Cherry in her plaid skirt and glasses. Look up 'Too cute" in the dictionary and you've got Cherry. (So when are you going to do a custom video for me huh?)
Also on hand and looking devastatingly sexy was Tina Tyler.
Her black, outfit is better left undescribed, so I've included a photo of Ms. T. Take a few moments to enjoy the visual, then come back to finish reading. Ever generous with her time, Ms. Tyler told me that here second blowjob video will be coming out soon. (And why was I not asked to participate or at least be on set?) She also put me in contact with the behind the scenes folks at OGV. I am pleased to announce that I will be reviewing some of their videos in the very near future. Thank you much Ms. T.
I received a warm welcome at the Extreme booth. Tom Byron, Jessica Darlin and Jasmin St. Claire. Tom was quite anxious to introduce me to Lizzy Borden who seemed pleased that her most recent film 'Extreme Monique' had received a perfect score. You know, when I heard that Extreme had hired Kristi Myst, I was baffled, but one look at his blonde at it all makes sense. She looks fantastic. Now we'll see how she is on film. I also got Tom to semi-commit to an interview.
(I know ladies, long over due and I am working on Sean Michaels as well) He also assured me that I could interview any of the Extreme Girls any time I wanted. Well, how about Krysti, Ashlyn and Lizzy sometime very soon? A triple threat of Extreme babes. I'll make the drive for that.
After exchanging email for six months, I finally got to meet Kendra Jade in person. Those of you who have been with me for a while know that I was exceptionally harsh on Kendra after the John Bone/Jerry Springer mess. In my criticism of the situation, a number of things were said, by me, about Kendra that were, to say the least, over the line. Though I have apologized to her personally, I don't believe I have publicly apologized for the personally harsh statements.
I still have strong feelings about that whole situation, but to take them out on Kendra, without even knowing her was wrong. Thankfully, she didn't tear my eyes out when we met. In fact she was very sweet. Her new do, which can be seen on the sample issue of XXXGen magazine is stunning and few people even recognized Ms. Jade.
Alisha Klass was cruising around the floor, dressed in a totally hot, pink outfit.
She was covering the event for Pink TV, but didn't bother to give me any camera time. If I weren't so hideous to look out, I might have even been hurt by the slight. Instead, she promised me an interview sometime very soon, so all is well. It's about time, I'd say.
Linda Thoren came all the way from Sweden just to see me, and while she was at it, took time to sign at the Sin City booth. OK, so maybe I got that reversed, but if I can't fantasize a bit, I'd go nuts. Linda looked amazing as you can all see by the photo and I got her to commit to a fully naked interview when she comes back to the State in a few months. (Yes, I know I just interviewed her, but she's going to be naked!)
By many accounts the show was quite slow, but it did seem to go quite smoothly. I liked the venue and the booths were nicely set up. Hopefully, AVN will take this and build on it, to make the Expo a yearly event that will rival CES or ECVS. At the very least, it was two days away from the normal grind for me, and that's always a good thing.
